Be Kind Rewind is about a small old Video Store in which Jerry (Jack Black) has erased all the video tapes which prompts him and pal Mike (Mos Def) who is left in charge of the store, to produce their own versions of classics like Ghostbusters, Robocop, The Lion King and many other good films resulting in lots of laughs. This leads to complications when a Hollywood lawyer (Sigourney Weaver) destroys the tapes due to copyright law.
Be Kind Rewind is impressive and has a very warm heart. It has depth and is a completely original idea that seems to provoke feeling for the well-acted characters. The film is a little slow and is a difficult premise to work with but this is sold well by Black and Def.
Be Kind Rewind is a great film but what is more interesting is that it was the first film that truly captured how we, as the audience, feel about copyright. I wonder whether anybody would take up their idea. I would like to sign up with normal people in my town to make a short film. No money, no auditions just pure film. With me in it. Maybe one day.
